Pi Network, initiated by a team of Stanford graduates in 2019, aims to make cryptocurrency accessible to many users by allowing mining via smartphones. On February 20, 2025, Pi Network transitioned from an enclosed mainnet to an open network, providing real-world capabilities. ION appeared later, in 2023, as a Layer-1 blockchain focused on data and digital interaction, launching its mainnet on January 29, 2025. Compared to Pi Network, ION places more emphasis on blockchain infrastructure.

Ice Open Network supports scalability and speed, handling up to 1.2 million transactions per second. It offers a decentralized application ecosystem, digital identity integration, and data storage security. ICE coin is its main asset. Pi Network focuses on mobile mining using the Stellar Consensus Protocol. Its codebase is closed, with PI as the main asset, having a total supply of 100 billion.

User Base and Recent Developments

Pi Network attracts more users, reaching 60 million, while ION currently has 40 million.
