The cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has reported a planned system upgrade and the addition of two new cryptocurrencies to its asset list.
Coinbase System Upgrade
Coinbase has announced an upcoming system upgrade scheduled for 7:00 AM PT on Saturday, July 19, 2025. The upgrade is expected to last three hours. During this time, trading on the Coinbase Simple and Advanced Trade platforms, as well as deposit and withdrawal operations, will be unavailable. Users will still have access to their accounts, but it is advisable to plan for potential delays.
Addition of New Cryptocurrencies
Alongside the upgrade announcement, Coinbase has added two new cryptocurrencies to its lineup: Newton (NEWT) and Sonic (S). The Newton token, based on the Ethereum network, is now available in the Coinbase iOS and Android apps under the Experimental label. The Sonic token, based on the Sonic network, has also been listed and is accessible to users.
Horizen Transition to ERC-20
Coinbase has informed users that Horizen will transition from a layer-1 blockchain to an ERC-20 token on Base. This upgrade is expected to take place on July 23, 2025. During the migration, sending, receiving, and trading of the ZEN token will be temporarily disabled from July 16 to July 25. Users are advised not to deposit, transfer, or trade ZEN during this migration window, as any deposits will be non-recoverable.
