At Web3 Summit 2025 in Berlin, Gavin Wood introduced a new proof-of-personhood concept aimed at decentralized identity verification for users.
Proof-of-Personhood Concept
Gavin Wood, the founder of Polkadot and creator of the Solidity smart contract language, presented the Proof-of-Personhood (PoP) concept that will allow decentralized verification of an individual's identity on the blockchain. He explained that the solution will be implemented through the Individuality system, featuring two identifiers: DIM1 for proof of individuality and DIM2 for verified individuality. The PoP launch is expected to be supported by a treasury proposal worth $3 million. Wood also described the upcoming airdrop as the "fairest".
Polkadot's Achievements Over the Past Year
In the past year, Polkadot has achieved several notable milestones, including the launch of the fifth edition of the Polkadot Blockchain Academy (PBA) at the end of May 2024, aimed at nurturing talent in Singapore. The blockchain also became the title sponsor of Coinfest Asia 2024 and secured a sponsorship deal with the soccer team Inter Miami.
Trust Issues in Technology
In a separate summit panel titled "Trust," Ian Grigg, an inventor and financial cryptographer, highlighted that trust involves more than just technological reassurance. He emphasized that, unlike technology, trust remains a human emotion filled with uncertainty and complex feelings.
The introduction of the Proof-of-Personhood concept demonstrates Polkadot's efforts in enhancing identity verification in the blockchain space and addressing modern challenges related to identity and trust.
