Bitcoin advocate John Carvalho has proposed a new BIP that could change how this cryptocurrency is perceived and used, suggesting a shift to make satoshi the new base unit.

Essence of the Proposal

Under Carvalho’s proposal, the Bitcoin unit will be redefined as satoshi, equivalent to one hundred-millionth of a Bitcoin. This would eliminate the need for decimal points in transactions, making them simpler to read.

Advantages of the Change

Carvalho argues that this shift will reduce confusion and streamline Bitcoin's perception, aligning it more closely with its protocol framework.

Potential Issues and Criticism

Critics warn that redefining the currency could complicate wallet and platform operations built on the current system and may lead to user confusion.

Carvalho’s proposal has the potential to simplify Bitcoin use but requires thorough consideration and possible adaptation from all stakeholders.
