The World project, co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has developed biometric verification technology using iris scanners. This system would allow Reddit users to verify their uniqueness while preserving the option of anonymity. Currently, the project has reported over 12 million people have utilized this technology.
Users' Opinions on the Verification System
Many users are expressing concerns about privacy and anonymity regarding the implementation of this system. Some have stated they would delete their accounts or consider moving to other platforms. One user expressed discontent, stating: "Should I be happy that Reddit may enter the crypto space or sad that they want to verify us users by a method we already declined when World was launched?"
Reddit Management’s Position
In response to users' concerns, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman mentioned the need for more information about users in light of regulatory requirements regarding age. He also stated that the platform does not intend to request personal details, such as names, and will collaborate with third parties to obtain only the essential information.
