Reddit, one of the largest social media platforms, may implement a new user verification system based on eye scans.
Plan for New Verification System
According to reports, Reddit is exploring a partnership with Tools for Humanity, which developed the World ID system. This system may allow users to remain anonymous while proving they are human.
CEO Reddit's Response
CEO Steve Huffman stated that in light of threats from artificial intelligence and the need for age verification regulations, the company must determine how to identify users as human and by age. He noted that Reddit will work with third parties to protect user data: 'We will work to preserve both the humanity and anonymity of Reddit.'
World ID Technology
The World ID system uses unique biometric data obtained from a user's iris. This data is fragmented and stored on secure servers around the world, allowing users to prove they are unique individuals without revealing their identity.
If user verification through World ID is implemented, it may lead to a new phase of anonymity protection in social media and confirmation of human participation on Reddit.
