The NIMC has granted the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) a license to register 79,518 inmates for national identity numbers (NIN).
License Details
During a visit to the NIMC headquarters in Abuja, NCoS Acting Controller General, Sylvester Nwakuche, announced that the directive will enable inmate registration for NIN, preventing their exclusion from the national development plans.
Partnership and Improvements
Nwakuche emphasized that the partnership with NIMC will streamline the Service's mandate, enhance inmate security, and facilitate their social reintegration.
Multipurpose National Card
NIMC previously stated that the new national card will double as both identification and financial tool, with citizens able to collect cards at bank branches for easier access.
Through this initiative, NIMC aims to enhance social integration for all residents, including inmates, ensuring their participation in national and economic processes.
