The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) extended the registration deadline for Point of Sale (PoS) operators in Nigeria to ensure adherence to legal requirements and directives from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The Registrar-General of the CAC, Hussaini Magaji, highlighted the alignment of the extension with relevant legislation such as the Companies and Allied Matters Act, CAMA 2020, and the CBN guidelines on agent banking. The registration exercise initiated by the CAC for PoS agents and operators aims to enhance the efficiency and security of financial services within the country. Additionally, the establishment of a 24-hour service center offers support to PoS operators for prompt issue resolution during their registration processes. Despite these efforts, the National Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria expressed concerns regarding the CAC's mandatory registration directive, emphasizing the importance of differentiating regulatory approaches between the CAC and CBN. This highlights broader apprehensions about the impact of regulatory measures on financial inclusion endeavors and stakeholders in the mobile money and banking sector.
