Ripple, Mercy Corps Ventures, and DIVA Donate have launched a pilot project aimed at supporting pastoral communities in Kenya, utilizing blockchain technology to provide financial aid to drought-affected areas.
Objectives and Goals
The goal of the project is to aid 533 pastoralists who depend on livestock for their livelihood. Assistance will be directed towards providing food and water for their animals amid ongoing drought conditions.
Use of Technologies
As part of the pilot project, Ripple plans to utilize its newly launched stablecoin RLUSD, along with tools like smart contracts and satellite data for analyzing vegetation. If the data indicates insufficient vegetation, each pastoralist will automatically receive a payment of $75.
Importance of Timely Assistance
The project aims to prevent critical situations through a proactive approach, potentially shortening response times and enhancing aid efficiency. Ripple believes that such a system will enable communities to prepare for disasters before they fully strike.
Ripple continues to play a significant role in developing blockchain solutions for aiding those in need, supporting initiatives aimed at improving aid distribution processes and accelerating crisis response.
