Ripple, a company involved with cryptocurrencies and blockchain, has revamped its customary XRP unlocking schedule, marking a notable shift in its policy.
Changes in Unlocking Schedule
Typically, Ripple unlocks one billion tokens from escrow on the first day of each month. This pattern has been maintained since late 2017, but since March, Ripple has started to unlock tokens at later dates.
New Escrows and Token Releases
In March, Ripple created new escrows from existing XRP assets instead of unlocking new tokens for the first time. Since then, the company has followed this new schedule in April and May, and on June 1, 670 million XRP tokens were locked in escrow, coinciding with the token's 13th anniversary.
Ending Monthly Reports
Recently, Ripple confirmed it would stop publishing monthly XRP reports, opting instead for sporadic updates on social media and blog posts. In its last quarterly report, Ripple disclosed it holds 4.5 billion XRP tokens, with 37.1 billion tokens locked in escrow as of March 31.
Thus, Ripple demonstrates changes in its XRP token management policies, which may impact the market and its participants.
