San Francisco-based Ripple has donated $100,000 in XRP to support efforts against Californian wildfires through The Giving Block.
Ripple's Donations
On January 10, Ripple also announced a $50,000 donation in RLUSD tokens to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation to support first responders.
The Giving Block Initiative
Last week, The Giving Block announced an initiative aiming to raise $2 million to aid residents, businesses, and first responders affected by the wildfires.
Economic and Social Impact
The fires, which have displaced tens of thousands, have caused an estimated $200 billion in economic damage, marking them as the most devastating in U.S. history. Elite neighborhoods like Malibu have been severely affected. Major companies such as Verizon, Airbnb, Walmart, and Disney have made sizeable contributions, alongside celebrities like 'Desperate Housewives' star Eva Longoria.
While major companies and celebrities actively support wildfire victims, crypto companies have not shown significant involvement with the exception of Ripple.
