Recently, rumors have been circulating in the crypto sphere regarding free NIGHT tokens for XRP holders. This article aims to clarify the facts and conditions for receiving these tokens.
What’s the Claim?
Many posts on social media assert that 'If you held XRP during the snapshot, you will receive NIGHT tokens for free.' This sounds intriguing — who wouldn’t want free tokens just for holding crypto?
What’s the Truth?
Indeed, XRP holders will receive NIGHT tokens, but only if they meet specific criteria. According to the official 45-page whitepaper, the airdrop will be shared across eight blockchains, including Cardano, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, Avalanche, BAT, and XRP. To qualify, one had to hold at least $100 worth of XRP at the time of the snapshot taken on June 11, 2025. Claiming does not require KYC or any fees — it is as simple as signing with your wallet and submitting a valid Cardano address. However, the tokens will initially be locked, with 25% unlocking gradually over a year.
How Did We Find That Out?
The Midnight team detailed this information in their whitepaper, outlining the token supply and distribution plan. Of the total NIGHT token supply, 50% (12 billion tokens) is allocated for Cardano (ADA) holders. Bitcoin (BTC) holders will receive the next largest share at 20%, which amounts to about 4.8 billion NIGHT tokens. The final 30% (7.2 billion NIGHT tokens) will be evenly distributed among six other blockchains: XRP, BAT, ETH, BNB, SOL, and AVAX. This means that XRP holders are eligible to claim around 1.2 billion NIGHT tokens from this pool.
Thus, if you held XRP during the eligible snapshot, you could qualify for a share of the 1.2 billion NIGHT tokens. Your allocation will depend on how much XRP you held at that time.
