In a recent interview, FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried expressed dissatisfaction with the Biden administration and supported Donald Trump, highlighting political bias in his case.
Bankman-Fried Turns on Biden, Praises Trump
Sam Bankman-Fried, once a major donor to the Democratic Party, voiced his frustration with Biden and the Democrats. He said, “I became really frustrated and disappointed with what I saw of the Biden administration and the Democratic Party.” Bankman-Fried also admired Trump’s policies and Elon Musk’s aggressive approach to cutting government bureaucracy.
A Desperate Pardon Bid?
Sentenced to 25 years for fraud, Bankman-Fried and his family are seeking clemency from Trump. This wouldn’t be the first time Trump has pardoned high-profile figures from the crypto world; in 2024, he pardoned Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road.
The Trump Connection
Bankman-Fried's legal troubles have an interesting link to Trump’s cases. Judge Lewis Kaplan, who oversaw his trial, was also involved in Trump's case. Bankman-Fried argues his case is politicized, saying, “When politics get involved — both in a partisan sense and in career advancement for law enforcement — it blows everything out of proportion.”
Sam Bankman-Fried's recent interview shows a strategic political shift towards supporting Trump. However, experts believe his chances of receiving a pardon are slim.
