At a press call from SAP’s headquarters in Walldorf, Germany, CEO Christian Klein commented on the AI situation in Europe.
Christian Klein's Statements on AI Needs in Europe
Christian Klein expressed doubts about the need to build new data centers filled with powerful chips in Europe. He mentioned that following the suggestion made by Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang does not seem appropriate to him, as the latter stated Europe is losing ground in AI due to insufficient computing power.
Change in SAP's Strategy
Klein also announced a drastic change in SAP’s strategy, indicating that the company is no longer interested in investing in AI 'gigafactories'. They had previously discussed potential joint projects with other German companies, but these talks eventually broke down. SAP now intends to provide technology and software as a backing to such initiatives.
Prospects for Open AI Solutions
The CEO noted that with the increasing interest in open solutions in the AI field, companies can build effective models without expensive resources. He cited the Chinese company DeepSeek, which surpassed American competitors by using open-source code. Klein emphasizes that the critical issue is not computing power but the quality of AI integration into real business processes.
Christian Klein's statements highlight the growing dissatisfaction among Europe's industrial leaders regarding the need to follow the American AI model, focusing instead on innovation and practical application.
