The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria, in partnership with Quidax, held a two-day educational event for finance professionals. This initiative aimed to enhance understanding of digital assets and their integration within the traditional financial system.
Objectives of the Educational Series
The educational series, held at the esteemed Capital Club in Lagos, gathered participants from commercial banks, investment firms, and various financial institutions. Abdulrasheed Dan Abu, Head of FinTech and Innovation at SEC, emphasized the event's significance, highlighting the need to enhance banks' understanding of digital assets. "Banks hold fiat currency. If they don’t understand what is going on, it creates a disconnect in the value chain," he stated.
Importance of Collaboration and Integration
Buchi Okoro, Co-founder and CEO of Quidax, underscored the significance of collaboration for raising knowledge levels among finance industry participants. The event also discussed Quidax’s plans to expand to all 54 African countries. "We’re solving African problems for Africans," he added.

The initiative received backing from other key industry figures. Pascal Maguire, Sales Director for Africa at Fireblocks, pointed out the need for such events. Attendees expressed positive feedback regarding the significance of these educational gatherings, emphasizing their role in raising awareness about digital assets and their potential.
