The Sky platform, formerly known as Maker, is considering returning to its original brand after a wave of criticism and misunderstanding from the community.
History of Sky's rebranding
In August, the Maker platform was rebranded to Sky, accompanied by the launch of the new USDS stablecoin and Sky protocol. However, this caused confusion regarding the roles of the Sky token and Maker brand among community members.
Brand change proposals
Sky co-founder Rune Christensen proposed on the governance forum to discuss several options, including continuing with Sky as the core brand, returning to the original Maker brand reinstating MKR as the sole governance token, and refreshing the Maker brand with modern identity.
Future of Maker and SKY
The next steps include gathering feedback on an October 25 community call and holding a governance vote on November 4 to decide the future direction of the Maker brand and tokenomics.
Reverting to the Maker brand is being discussed by the Sky community to alleviate confusion and stabilize the platform following negative feedback on the rebranding.
