On March 16, 2020, Solana launched its mainnet. Today, the network is supported by more than 1,300 validators, with nearly a trillion trades and over 408 billion transactions completed. Anatoly Yakovenko's proof-of-history combined with proof-of-stake has allowed Solana to achieve high transaction speeds at low costs.
Blockchain Growth and Its Impact
Since the network's launch, more than 254 million blocks have been created. Solana has become a significant force in decentralized finance, with over $7 billion in total value locked in its protocols. In late 2024, Solana surpassed Ethereum as the most popular blockchain for new developers, attracting 7,625 new professionals.
Future Plans and Trading
On March 17, CME Group plans to launch Solana futures, indicating its growing acceptance in the cryptocurrency market. Additionally, Solana is included in several ETF applications, confirming its increasing recognition.
