The National e-hailing Federation of South Africa (NEFSA) has condemned the sale of drivers' licenses by third parties, especially in the Western Cape.
Issue of License Sales
NEFSA's leaders reported that despite the approval of 1,100 new licenses by the Provincial Regulatory Entity, some consultants have begun selling licenses at exorbitant prices. The National Convener, Comrade Elijah Lawrence Lekgowane, emphasized that this situation is irregular and unlawful.
Consultant Pricing Practices
Comrade Omar Parker, Secretary of the Western Cape e-hailing Association, noted that there are different types of consultants. Some provide application services, while others possess multiple licenses that they sell for as much as 40,000 rands.
Accusations Against Uber
NEFSA has also accused Uber of onboarding unlicensed drivers, leading to vehicle impounding for many union members. NEFSA leadership argues that the government is not enforcing the law properly and allowing violations.
The issues surrounding license sales and the actions of companies like Uber remain a topic of concern. NEFSA calls for stricter oversight and protection of drivers' rights.
