The fast-food chain Steak ‘N Shake announced that all its outlets will begin accepting Bitcoin starting May 16.
Shift Towards Cryptocurrency
American fast-food chain Steak ‘N Shake has announced that all its locations will start accepting Bitcoin as a payment method from May 16. The company stated: “Steak n Shake accepting Bitcoin payments at all locations starting May 16, making the cryptocurrency available to our more than 100 million customers.”
Public Reaction and Potential for Future Changes
The company also hinted at the possibility of accepting other forms of cryptocurrency in the future, ending the announcement with a cryptic note: “The movement is just beginning…”. In March, Steak 'N Shake first discussed the idea of accepting BTC by asking its followers if they should start accepting it.
Cryptocurrency Initiatives by Other Restaurants
Several other fast-food outlets have also leaned towards cryptocurrency payments in the U.S. For instance, Chipotle partnered with digital payment provider Flexa in 2022 and accepts over 98 different crypto assets at nearly 3,000 locations. Subway also trialed accepting Bitcoin in select franchises back in 2013.
The introduction of Bitcoin at Steak ‘N Shake highlights the growing interest in cryptocurrency by businesses and potential changes in payment systems in the future.
