Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin shared his targets for the Surge stage in Ethereum's roadmap, aiming to boost network capacity and enhance interoperability.
New Goals for Ethereum
In an October 17 blog post, Vitalik Buterin laid out the key goals for Surge, including reaching over 100,000 transactions per second on the Ethereum mainnet and layer-2 blockchains and enhancing their interoperability. He emphasized that Ethereum should feel like one ecosystem, not 34 different blockchains.
Challenges and Solutions
Buterin noted the success of the rollup-centric approach but acknowledged unique challenges it posed. As layer-2 networks become more scalable, Buterin suggests that Ethereum needs to improve in order not to fall behind increasing demand. He proposed increasing the gas limit or making specific computations cheaper without sacrificing decentralization.
Improving User Experience
Vitalik Buterin also highlighted the importance of improving user experience between Ethereum's layer-2 networks. He proposed facilitating easier token transfers between different chains without the hassle of swapping or gas payments.
The Surge stage is a crucial part of Ethereum's roadmap aimed at enhancing performance and user experience. These measures could significantly increase transaction speed and simplify working within the Ethereum ecosystem.
