A recent leak on Baidu Tieba forum provides a new insight into the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console and its Joycon controllers.

New Joycon photos

The Baidu Tieba forum, a popular Chinese site, recently leaked photos showing the sides, back, and a bit of the front of the new Joycon controllers. These images reveal that the controllers still slot in as one might expect from Nintendo consoles, retaining many aspects of the original Switch design. However, they appear longer and bulkier, suggesting that the Switch 2 could be a larger device.

Features of new Joycon

The Joycon controllers maintain the hybrid format with some new features. These are equipped with an optical sensor (whose purpose is mysterious) and a reworked locking mechanism. Furthermore, eagle-eyed fans noticed a serial number in the leaked photos, which might help trace the leak. However, the serial number doesn't offer enough detail to confirm the images' authenticity.

Innovations and improvements

The new Joycon controllers appear notably sturdier than the originals. Unlike some other controllers, they seem to go straight into the console, with a button near the shoulder button likely meant to release them. One more noticeable upgrade is the larger concealed buttons that allow for easier play with just one Joycon. Although the front of the Joycon isn’t clearly visible, the leak promises significant upgrades compared to its predecessor.

While the new leaks do not provide a comprehensive look at the design and functionality of the Nintendo Switch 2's Joycon controllers, they suggest that the upcoming console will continue the Switch lineage with notable enhancements.
