The BNB Chain has completed the implementation of two key upgrades: Pascal and Lorentz, aimed at enhancing blockchain functionality and security.
Technical Details of the Upgrades
The Pascal and Lorentz upgrades were implemented in March and April 2025, respectively. Starting with Pascal, this upgrade introduced smart wallet features that allow users to recover their wallets, schedule transactions, and access other smart wallet functionalities. Lorentz, in turn, reduced the block time to 1.5 seconds and improved validator synchronization within the network.
Benefits of Implementing the Upgrades
These upgrades offer multiple advantages. Pascal enhances account abstraction features while Lorentz reduces block time from 3 seconds to 1.5 seconds, making BNB more competitive against Ethereum with its Pectra Upgrade. Looking ahead, the upcoming Maxwell upgrade aims to further reduce block time to 0.75 seconds.
Risks and Future of BNB
Despite the benefits, these upgrades also carry certain risks. In particular, there is a threat of phishing, as evidenced by the ByBit hack incident. In the future, BNB anticipates the Maxwell upgrade, which will enhance the transaction speed and make it more attractive in the market.
The Pascal and Lorentz upgrades on BNB aim to strengthen security and improve transaction speeds, preparing the platform for upcoming significant changes.
