Key Points:
- Telegram has introduced an in-app browser and a mini app store to enhance website browsing and provide support for decentralized sites.
- The in-app browser of Telegram offers functionalities like notifications, bookmarks, and multi-tab browsing.
Telegram has unveiled a series of new features, including in-app browsers and mini app stores, as per the announcement by the founder Pavel Durov.
Telegram's latest in-app browser allows users to view websites within the app itself and read messages simultaneously. It is compatible with decentralized TON Sites, enabling users to self-host their websites on The Open Network.
The browser also incorporates notifications for real-time updates and bookmarks for easy access to saved content.
The messaging platform had promised a mini app store by the end of July, and it has now been launched. Users can explore and engage with various apps in the store, some of which accept Stars for interaction. These mini apps can also be showcased in Telegram's revamped Stories section to broaden their exposure within the app's ecosystem.
With over 500 million monthly interactions through mini-apps, Telegram aims to attract more users with this new store. An 'App' tab has been added next to the 'Chats and Channels' tab, which opens in Telegram's in-app browser, equipped with features like minimized browsing and progress saving.
Telegram's Target: One Billion Users Amid Rapid Expansion
Pavel Durov had initially hinted at these updates on July 19. These developments come in the wake of the success of Telegram-based games, including web3 games like Catizen, which have generated substantial revenue.
In a recent interview, Durov expressed his confidence in Telegram potentially reaching one billion active monthly users by the end of this year. Despite facing challenges like the 2018 censorship attempt in Russia, Telegram's commitment to safeguarding encryption data has resonated well with users. Its reputation for speed and robust privacy features has significantly contributed to its popularity, especially in Russia.
