Telegram announced a series of new features, including gift-giving, but Toncoin has not shown the expected growth.
Telegram's new features
Telegram's latest announcement introduced a new feature allowing users to send gifts to friends. Recipients can use them to display on profiles or convert into stars. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov revealed that some gifts are limited in supply. There are plans to enable the conversion of these gifts into TON-based NFTs. Telegram also unveiled a business platform for verifying customer phone numbers. The reporting system has been enhanced to include more details and categories of violations, ensuring greater efficiency.
iOS changes
Telegram announced a complete redesign of video chats on iOS devices, enhancing performance and extending battery life. Devices now stay significantly cooler during long calls, even with multiple video feeds. Android users now have access to livestreaming using RTMP, a feature previously available on iOS and desktop platforms.
Toncoin's current status
Despite the new features, Toncoin remains muted. At press time, Toncoin is trading at $5.22, with a 2.7% drop over the last 24 hours. According to CoinGecko, the coin has dropped over 10% in the last seven days. Usually, major announcements lead to price escalations, but even with slightly positive crypto markets, Toncoin hasn't reversed its negative course. TON was trading above $8 in mid-2024, but the price declined following the arrest of Durov, and it is now slowly recovering.
Telegram has implemented several new features, but Toncoin has yet to show the anticipated growth following these developments.
