The Terra ecosystem, once considered a groundbreaking project in decentralized finance, has collapsed, leaving behind a trail of financial devastation. Investor losses are estimated at $40 billion, and the number of victims could exceed one million.

Collapse of the Terra Ecosystem

In the spring of 2022, the Terra ecosystem dismantled. Its algorithmic stablecoin, TerraUSD, failed to stay pegged to the U.S. dollar, sparking a catastrophe that wiped out approximately $40 billion in investments.

While it is difficult to precisely quantify the number of Kwon's victims, the Government estimates that the number of victims potentially totals more than one million.

Challenges in Identifying Victims

Daniel Gitner noted that tracking all victims is complicated by the vast amount of transactions done through anonymous crypto wallets and foreign exchanges. Prosecutors have proposed creating a dedicated website to notify victims of the case's progress.
