Tether, known as the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, has significantly increased its Bitcoin reserves with its latest purchase in the first quarter of 2025.
Tether's Bitcoin Acquisition
According to onchain data, Tether acquired 8,888 Bitcoins in Q1 2025, increasing its holdings to 100,521 BTC worth approximately $8.46 billion. The newly acquired Bitcoins were moved from a Bitfinex address to a wallet controlled by Tether.
Tether's Financial Impact and Investments
In 2024, Tether reported $13 billion in profit, enabling it to channel significant funds into large-scale investment projects. Recent moves include a €10 million investment in the Italian media company Be Water and the acquisition of a majority stake in the Juventus Football Club, with plans for a possible acquisition of the agribusiness Adecoagro.
Growth of the USDt Stablecoin
USDt, the world's leading stablecoin and the third largest digital asset by market cap, reached a total supply of nearly $148 billion at the time of writing. Tether further emphasized its influence by minting $1 billion worth of USDt on the Tron blockchain at the end of March.
