In the first quarter of 2025, Tether significantly increased its Bitcoin investments, influenced by market conditions and strategic decisions.
Bitcoin Investment Growth
Tether acquired an additional 8,888 BTC during the first three months of 2025, raising its reserves to 92,647 bitcoins. This acquisition occurred amid a more than 12% decline in Bitcoin prices.
Tether's Reserves and Strategy
As of the end of the quarter, the estimated value of Tether's Bitcoin reserves is $7.64 billion. The company ranks sixth among the world's largest Bitcoin holders. Since May 2023, Tether has used 15% of its quarterly profits to purchase Bitcoin, following its long-term strategy.
Stablecoin Market Competition
Alongside increasing Bitcoin reserves, Tether minted an additional $1 billion in USDT on the Tron platform, raising the total supply to over $8 billion. The stablecoin market is facing increased competition, particularly with new offerings from Ripple and Circle.
Tether continues to demonstrate a strong investment strategy in Bitcoin despite market fluctuations and competitive pressure in the stablecoin sector. Analysts predict continued high volatility in the digital asset market.
