Togo's transport ministry has suspended Russian tech company Yandex's ride-hailing app Yango over security concerns.
Reasons for Suspension
The ministry stated that the decision to suspend Yango was based on concerns about passenger safety and violations of legal procedures. It was reported that the company began operations in Togo in June without official authorization.
Yango's Presence in Africa
Yango offers ride-hailing services in over 20 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. In Africa, the company initially launched operations in the Ivory Coast in 2018 and is now present in countries like Algeria, Angola, and Cameroon.
Yango's Autonomous Solutions
Beyond ride-hailing, Yango is developing autonomous delivery solutions capable of operating in extreme weather conditions. The company plans to use autonomous robots to minimize delivery times in the Middle East.
Yango continues to develop innovative technologies worldwide despite the temporary suspension in Togo. The company has yet to respond to the decision.
