TON Prepares for Major Load Test with HMSTR Token Launch

  1. HMSTR Token Minting Begins
  2. Controversy and User Reactions
  3. Exchange Support and Potential Outages

On September 26, 2024, the TON blockchain will undergo a major load test due to the minting of HMSTR tokens for the Hamster Kombat game. This is the first event of its kind for TON, and the community is preparing for potential high traffic.

HMSTR Token Minting Begins

The minting of Hamster Kombat tokens will start on September 26, 2024 at 11:00 UTC. Significant user influx is expected on the TON blockchain as the game plans an airdrop for its 100 million active users. The TON Status Telegram channel advised validators to be ready for necessary actions within an hour. The TON team has developed Mintless Jettons technology to ensure effective token distribution and enable instant transactions with minimal fees.

Controversy and User Reactions

The airdrop of Hamster Kombat tokens will reach only 43% of its users, causing controversy within the community. Out of 300 million players, only 131 million meet the airdrop requirements, leading to dissatisfaction among the remainder. The game previously announced an airdrop in July, but it was delayed to September, adding to player discontent. Following the announcement that 2.3 million accounts had been banned for cheating, some players expressed their intention not to continue playing the game and to skip Season 2. To create scarcity and increase token value, Hamster Kombat decided to lock 11.25% of distributed tokens for ten months.

Exchange Support and Potential Outages

The HMSTR token listing will occur on the same day as the airdrop — September 26. The project has received backing from major exchanges like Binance, which announced the “$HMSTR Super Earn” program offering high Annual Percentage Rates (APR) on locked-in products. Within two months of its inception, Binance's Launchpool recorded $14 billion in locked-in value. However, despite this support, the TON blockchain may face potential outages due to expected high traffic from September 26 to 29. Though the TON blockchain has experienced high traffic from other projects in recent months, the Hamster Kombat event will be the largest load test to date.

The launch of HMSTR tokens and the associated airdrop have generated both excitement and dissatisfaction among Hamster Kombat players. The TON blockchain is gearing up for a major load test, which will demonstrate its capacity to handle large-scale Web3 implementations.
