Trezor recently patched a security flaw in its popular Safe 3 and 5 hardware wallet models. The vulnerability was identified by Ledger's research team, Donjon.
Trezor's Security Enhancements
Despite improvements, Trezor's microcontrollers remained vulnerable to sophisticated attacks. Trezor had previously integrated Secure Elements to protect PIN codes and cryptographic secrets, a measure praised by Ledger in March.
New Vulnerabilities Discovered and Addressed
Ledger bypassed the firmware integrity check, highlighting a potential vulnerability. Trezor stated the issue is resolved, but specific fix details remain undisclosed.
Incidents Involving Ledger
Uncovering vulnerabilities in Trezor isn't the only challenge Ledger faced. Earlier this year, Ledger's co-founder David Balland was kidnapped in France but was soon rescued by law enforcement.
Both companies emphasize the importance of securing digital assets and urge users to rely on official sources for purchasing and updating their devices.
