Tron founder Justin Sun has announced the development of a gas-free stablecoin solution by his team to enable free peer-to-peer transfers. Sun envisions that gasless stablecoins can revolutionize corporate adoption of blockchain technology by facilitating seamless and cost-effective transactions. The plan is to implement this stablecoin solution on the Tron blockchain initially, with future integration on Ethereum and other compatible chains. Transactions will incur no gas fees as all costs will be covered by the stablecoins themselves. Sun foresees this innovation as a pivotal advancement for companies seeking to provide stablecoin services on the blockchain, ultimately accelerating the widespread adoption of blockchain technology. Despite the promising prospects, Sun has not disclosed the operational details of this mechanism. Tron currently dominates the peer-to-peer stablecoin transfer market, processing significantly higher transaction volumes than its competitors, particularly Ethereum. Notably, Tron hosts a substantial portion of Tether's total value across various blockchains, as indicated by DeFiLlama data. Tron's initiative poses a potential competition to existing solutions like PayPal's PYUSD and Circle's USD Coin (USDC) on Ethereum, both of which offer free transfer services. Following the removal of USDC support on Tron by Circle and Binance, Tron is motivated to develop its independent solution. Moreover, Tron is contemplating the creation of a Bitcoin layer 2 platform to support a wrapped version of Tether, facilitating the inflow of significant capital into the Bitcoin ecosystem. In the interim, Tron is leveraging cross-chain protocols to bridge USDT and other tokens between Bitcoin and its own platform.
