Donald Trump, speaking from the White House, stated that Russia has 50 days to end its war against Ukraine or face 100% secondary tariffs. During a press briefing, he emphasized that his conversations with Vladimir Putin have yet to yield results.
Trump's Warning to Russia
Trump mentioned that he has had numerous calls with Putin that sound friendly but ultimately have no significant outcomes. He stressed that time for empty talks is over, stating, 'After several such conversations, you start to think the talks mean nothing.'
Support for Ukraine and NATO
Trump confirmed that the United States would continue military support for Ukraine, but through NATO, leaving funding and distribution of weapons to the alliance. 'We will implement secondary tariffs if we don’t reach an agreement in 50 days,' he warned.
Comments on the Sanctions Bill
During the briefing, Trump also commented on a sanctions bill being discussed in Congress but left questions about it open: 'I’m not sure we need it, but it’s good that they’re doing it.'
Trump continues to demand that Russia halt its military actions in Ukraine and is prepared to take strict measures if they persist. The escalation of the situation could also impact global trade.
