In his blog post, Vitalik Buterin called for a temporary pause in superintelligent AI development to allow humanity to prepare for potential threats.

Buterin's Concerns About AI

Vitalik Buterin expressed concerns in his blog that AI could surpass human intelligence in all areas within the next five years. He warns that this could have serious implications for society.

AI Restriction Proposal

Buterin suggests temporarily limiting global computing resources for one to two years to slow the development of superintelligent AI. This would give humanity time to adapt to new technologies. As an additional measure, he suggests implementing special chips requiring weekly authorization from international bodies to continue operations.

AI Regulation and Possible Measures

Buterin believes that one way to mitigate risks could be the introduction of liability rules for AI developers and users. He also proposed considering a pause in AI hardware usage if liability rules prove insufficient.

Buterin believes that a temporary pause in AI development could prevent potential catastrophes and allow humanity to prepare for new challenges.
