Four months after the Rs 2000 crore hack of the WazirX exchange, Delhi Police moves forward with their investigation.
Arrest and Investigation
This week, Delhi Police arrested SK Masud Alam from West Bengal in connection with the cyberattack. According to the police report, Alam allegedly created a fake account on the WazirX platform under the alias Souvik Mondal and sold it via Telegram to M. Hasan, who used it to perform the hack. Investigators believe Alam could be a key figure in tracing the real culprits.
WazirX and Liminal Custody's Involvement
Despite active cooperation from WazirX, absolutions are not forthcoming. Suspicion still lingers over the involvement of its security partner, Liminal Custody. Nevertheless, the company has been cooperative, providing access to some logs and transaction data.
Security Issues and Future Steps
The incident has highlighted significant security issues, raising questions about potential vulnerabilities in the security frameworks of both WazirX and its partner. Breaching supposedly secure wallets continues to raise concerns, especially in light of the sophisticated tactics used by the hackers.
Questions about the full extent of WazirX and Liminal Custody's involvement remain unanswered, urging a re-evaluation of security measures for all parties involved.
