Recently, rumors have been circulating in the crypto community about the possibility of XRP holders receiving free NIGHT tokens. Let's break down the facts and details surrounding this event.
What’s the Claim?
Many posts on social media and Telegram channels claim that holders of XRP who possessed tokens during the snapshot will receive free NIGHT tokens.
The Truth About NIGHT Token Distribution
Yes, XRP holders will receive NIGHT tokens, but only if they meet specific eligibility criteria. According to the official 45-page whitepaper released by the Midnight team, the airdrop will be shared across eight blockchains: Cardano, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, Avalanche, BAT, and XRP. To qualify, you needed to hold at least $100 worth of XRP at the time of the snapshot on June 11, 2025. There is no need for KYC or any fees—claiming is as simple as signing the transaction with your wallet and providing a valid Cardano address. However, the tokens will initially be locked, with 25% unlocking gradually over a year.
How Did We Find That Out?
The Midnight team detailed all of this in their whitepaper, outlining the token supply and distribution plan. Out of the total NIGHT token supply, 50% (12 billion tokens) is allocated for Cardano holders. Bitcoin holders will receive the next largest share, 20%, which amounts to about 4.8 billion NIGHT tokens. The remaining 30% (7.2 billion NIGHT tokens) will be evenly distributed among six other blockchains: XRP, BAT, ETH, BNB, SOL, and AVAX. Therefore, XRP holders are eligible to claim around 1.2 billion NIGHT tokens from this pool.
If you held XRP during the snapshot, you may be eligible to claim a portion of the 1.2 billion NIGHT tokens available, depending on how much XRP you owned.
