In a shocking event, the CEO of crypto firm WonderFi Technologies, Dean Skurka, was reportedly kidnapped in Toronto, with a ransom of $1 million demanded for his release.
Kidnapping Incident
Dean Skurka was forcibly taken into a vehicle in downtown Toronto during rush hour on November 6. A source close to the investigation reported that he made an electronic transfer of $1 million to secure his release. Skurka confirmed via email his involvement in the 'incident' and stated that he is safe, with company funds and data remaining unaffected.
Abduction Trends in the Crypto Industry
Skurka's case adds to a worrying trend of abductions targeting crypto executives and influencers, often motivated by the desire to steal large sums of money. For instance, four suspects were arrested in Kyiv for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a 29-year-old Bitcoiner, and six Malaysians were charged with abducting a Chinese national for a $1 million ransom in Tether.
