The Layer 1 blockchain network Zilliqa has transitioned to version 2.0, featuring full Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility.
New Zilliqa 2.0 Architecture
Zilliqa 2.0 is designed with modularity in mind and aims to support future scalability and protocol evolution. It includes six core components: a Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism, customizable x-shards, cross-chain communication support, light client functionality, and revised tokenomics intended to promote long-term sustainability.
Focus on Fintech and Compliance
The development roadmap of Zilliqa also includes upcoming features such as smart accounts and zero-knowledge capabilities, which are expected to support privacy-oriented compliance use cases, including selective disclosure and verifiable credentials.
Benefits of the Upgrade and New Opportunities
The transition followed a six-month test period, during which the prototype mainnet produced over 7.5 million blocks. The new staking model has received a performance boost, offering high early APRs for users migrating stakes from Zilliqa 1.0. Initial integrations with partners like LTIN and interoperability protocol deBridge are already underway.
The launch of Zilliqa 2.0 introduces significant changes and improvements, which are expected to foster growth in the blockchain ecosystem and attract new users and developers.
