The ZisK project has been spun off from Polygon zkEVM and now operates as an independent entity focused on developing technologies for the blockchain ecosystem.
ZisK Launches as a Standalone Project
ZisK has evolved from Polygon Labs and gained full independence on June 13, 2025. The new project is focused on developing zero-knowledge virtual machines for high-speed proving. Jordi Baylina, along with seven developers, leads ZisK under his company, SilentSig GmbH.
Polygon's Shutdown of zkEVM and Strategic Changes
The Polygon Foundation has begun shutting down its zkEVM network in light of leadership changes and a shift toward alternative solutions. New CEO Sandeep Nailwal confirmed Polygon’s priorities, focusing on PoS and cross-chain AggLayer. Due to low performance and high operational costs, the decision to sunset zkEVM was finalized in June 2025.
Enhancements in Polygon PoS with Bhilai Hard Fork
Polygon is prioritizing its PoS chain, with a planned upgrade Bhilai set to activate on July 1, 2025. This upgrade is expected to increase network throughput above 1000 transactions per second and improve consistency in block processing.
With ZisK transitioning to an independent project and zkEVM being phased out, Polygon is focusing its efforts on optimizing its PoS solution, which could significantly impact the scalability and performance of the network.
