In the rapidly evolving cryptocurrency industry, bad actors are devising new ways to deceive users. Recently, an attack using a cloned version of Zoom has been reported.
New Threat for Zoom Users
Cybersecurity firm SlowMist reported that hackers created a clone of the popular video conferencing service Zoom. The fake Zoom meeting link used a domain similar to 'app[.]us4zoom[.]us'. Instead of starting the local Zoom client, users downloaded a malicious package.
Fraud Techniques of Scammers
Since the beginning of this year, the cryptocurrency market has lost over $1.80 billion due to illicit activities. A new scam involves posting fake wallet seed phrases in YouTube video comments to lure uninformed users.
Financial Losses in the Crypto Market
From the start of the year, scammers and hackers have severely impacted the market, wiping out billions of dollars. Centralized exchanges reported 70% of hacks and breaches. Notably, 'pig slaughtering' frauds led to $3.6 billion in losses on Ethereum.
The situation with fraud in the cryptocurrency sector remains tense, and users are advised to stay vigilant.
