RippleX has recently revealed an important development in the world of cryptocurrency, with the eagerly awaited XLS-30 upgrade for the XRP Ledger protocol nearing completion of its stress testing phase. This upgrade is poised to bring fundamental DeFi features to XRP holders, marking a pivotal moment for Ripple, the XRP Ledger, and the XRP cryptocurrency in the year 2023.

Testing for the XLS-30 upgrade in the XRP Ledger protocol has been successfully completed, marking a significant step towards transforming the XRP Ledger into a DeFi blockchain. The RippleX team officially announced this development on October 7, 2023.

XLS-30 plays a pivotal role in the upcoming rippled 1.12.0 upgrade and is poised to bring fundamental DeFi functionalities such as cross-asset swaps, liquidity provision, and trading directly to the XRPL ecosystem. This represents a substantial technological advancement for the entire XRP Ledger community.

In addition to a wide array of new features, this upgrade will introduce several novel transaction types that seamlessly integrate with the payment engine. It's worth noting that in July 2023, the proposal underwent rigorous third-party audits conducted by the prominent blockchain security firm, CertiK.

As previously reported by U.Today, the XLS-30 and XLS-39 Clawback upgrades were merged into the code base of the proposed release in early September 2023.

When will the mainnet be activated?

Over the past year, Ripple developers have diligently researched the XRP Ledger mainnet's readiness to accommodate upgrades in terms of compatibility and performance. The RippleX team has been actively engaged in ongoing performance testing of the core XRP Ledger, employing a rigorous methodology to evaluate the ledger's performance and latency, ensuring the robustness of the XRPL Mainnet.

In light of this, the blockchain has now initiated the referendum process to determine the necessity of implementing the proposed changes on the XRP Ledger mainnet. If the active nodes supporting the upgrade manage to reach the threshold of 28 out of 35 and maintain it for two consecutive weeks, the new rippled 1.12.0 upgrade will be activated.

Furthermore, Evernode, an L2 scaling platform built on top of the XRP Ledger, has successfully completed its audit and is drawing closer to its public mainnet launch.
