Sotheby's auction house has begun the auction of the digital collection BitcoinShrooms by the artist Shrumtoshi. The works from this collection are being presented at auction for the first time.
According to the press release, the BitcoinShrooms collection featured in the Ordinals auction includes several references to cutting-edge technical concepts. According to representatives of Sotheby's, it embodies the essence of Bitcoin from the perspective of someone who has been involved with it from the very beginning.
It is known that the auction will take place from December 6th to December 13th. Currently, collectors have access to three works of art. It is expected that each of them will be valued in the range of $20,000 to $30,000, but it is worth noting that the auction house also accepts bids in cryptocurrency.
Michael Buchanan, Head of Digital Art Department, announced that this is the first instance in Sotheby's history where an Ordinals collection is presented at auction.
According to one of the co-founders of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, the Ordinals technology has had a positive impact on the development of the Bitcoin ecosystem. Since its introduction, this protocol has rapidly gained popularity, and by May 2023, the number of "records" exceeded 10 million.
At the same time, members of the Bitcoin Core team, Ali Sherif and Luke Dashjr, have proposed blocking Ordinals and BRC-20-based tokens to reduce network congestion.
