At the Future Blockchain Summit, Christian Thompson from Mysten Labs discussed the impact of gaming on Web3 and unveiled the new SuiPlay0X1 device.

Blockchain gaming as a tech sandbox

Christian Thompson mentioned that games act as an 'interesting playground' to explore Web3. Web3 encompasses a convergence of technologies like AI, decentralized finance (DeFi), and NFTs. Thompson sees gaming not just as entertainment but as a way to experiment with various tech concepts.

Providing gamers access to Web3

On September 3, Mysten Labs announced SuiPlay0X1, a Web3 gaming device, set to launch in 2025. This device will enable users to play games on the Sui blockchain and PCs. Thompson highlighted their team's focus on creating a device capable of interacting with cutting-edge technologies like AI, DeFi, and NFTs.

SuiPlay0X1, for us, is really the first entry of a hardware device for gaming and Web3. It will allow our users to interact with all of the technologies that I just spoke about and really have that dynamic sort of interaction.

User experience challenges

According to a survey by Elympics, the complexity of crypto wallets stands as a major barrier for gamers. Thompson acknowledged that historically, the process of setting up wallets and interacting with Web3 systems has been challenging. However, Mysten Labs is developing solutions that simplify this experience, such as creating a wallet with Facebook or Google accounts.

Games offer unique opportunities to explore and integrate new technologies in the Web3 space. Mysten Labs' focus on enhancing user experience and providing intuitive solutions is a significant step in popularizing this field.
