The third quarter of 2024 saw a decline in global startup funding, which fell to $54.7 billion, reflecting a significant decrease compared to earlier quarters.

Funding Decline

According to the Global State of Funding report by CB Insights, the amount of investment attracted in Q3 2024 was $54.7 billion, which represents a 19.7% decrease from Q2 2024 and an 11.8% decrease from Q1. These are the lowest figures recorded since 2020, where even during the pandemic, such a decline was not witnessed.

Regional Distribution

Out of the total funding, $29.8 billion was raised in the United States, accounting for 55.1% of the global total. Europe attracted $11 billion, Asia $10.5 billion, Latin America $800 million, Oceania $500 million, and Africa $300 million, with other regions bringing in $94 million.

Deals and Volumes

The number of deals also fell to 6,056, significantly lower than in previous periods. However, Q3 saw 98 deals worth $100 million or more, totaling $21.5 billion, outpacing the values recorded in Q4 2023.

Despite a significant drop in investments, many regions showed positive deal outcomes. However, 2024 overall is on track to become the slowest year for startup funding growth since 2020.
