Bitcoin's funding rate has seen a significant rise in recent months, potentially indicating a bullish trend in the short to medium term according to market analysts.
Funding Rate Increase
The current funding rate, as weighted by open interest, stands at 0.012%. This level was last observed on July 27, when Bitcoin briefly reached $68,000 before the market experienced a sharp correction.
Market Impact
Alongside the rise in funding rates, the market is experiencing significant volatility. According to Coinglass, over $93 million worth of Bitcoin positions were liquidated in the past 24 hours, with $83 million in short positions. Ethereum also accounted for a significant portion of the overall $240 million in liquidations, $43 million of which were in short positions.
Expert Analysis
Ruslan Lienkha, Chief Markets Officer at YouHodler, noted that a positive funding rate typically reflects bullish market conditions but warned of caution as the high volatility of the crypto market makes these rates less reliable for long-term forecasts.
The increase in funding rates indicates the complex market conditions where investors need to consider high volatility and rapidly changing market sentiments before making significant investment decisions.
