In celebration of the third anniversary of AI artist Botto, created by Mario Klingemann and ElevenYellow, Sotheby’s will auction six of his works.
Botto's Exhibition at Sotheby's
The auction house Sotheby’s is hosting Botto's first art exhibition titled 'Exorbitant Stage: Botto, a Decentralized AI Artist'. The auction opened on October 17 and will close on October 24, 2023. The works will be available for viewing from October 19 to 23. Six pieces are estimated to bring between $220,000 and $310,100.
The Creation Story of Botto
Botto was created by German artist Mario Klingemann in collaboration with software collective ElevenYellow. First introduced in 2021, Botto's artworks have been selling on the NFT marketplace OpenSea, reaching prices as high as 11.99 Ethereum. Botto autonomously generates thousands of images and presents them to a community of BottoDAO token holders for voting, after which the most voted pieces are sold.
Technology and the Future of AI Art
Botto develops its artistic prompts and refines its taste model based on community votes. So far, over 15,000 people have contributed to Botto's development, shaping the theme, style, and imagery. In a press release, Botto stated that its debut exhibition at Sotheby’s further validates AI art, drawing society’s attention to creativity, technology, and the future of art.
Botto's third anniversary at Sotheby’s underscores the significance of AI art and highlights the importance of exploring boundaries between human and machine creativity.
