The identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, remains one of the greatest mysteries. Since the release of the Bitcoin whitepaper in 2008, various theories and candidates have emerged.
Candidate: Nick Szabo
Nick Szabo, a computer scientist and legal scholar, is seen as a top candidate for being Satoshi Nakamoto. In the late 1990s, he developed the concept of Bit Gold, which shared several key elements with Bitcoin. His work on smart contracts and understanding of cryptography make him a likely candidate. However, Szabo has consistently denied being Satoshi.
Candidate: Len Sassaman
Len Sassaman, a cryptographer known for his work on privacy technologies, is another strong candidate. He was heavily involved in the Cypherpunk movement and worked on encryption tools. Sassaman’s death in 2011 coincides with Nakamoto’s disappearance, adding to the speculation. Yet, his widow noted inconsistencies, such as different operating systems used.
Polymarket Odds and HBO Documentary
The debate over Satoshi’s identity took a new turn with odds on Polymarket, where Sassaman is currently a frontrunner. Increased interest is fueled by the upcoming HBO documentary, which claims to confront someone considered Satoshi, ruling out those who have passed away.
Nevertheless, the question of who Satoshi Nakamoto truly is remains open. Despite endless speculation and investigation, there is no conclusive evidence pointing to any specific candidate.
