Sam Bankman-Fried expressed dissatisfaction with the Biden administration, praised Trump, and hinted at seeking a presidential pardon.
Bankman-Fried Turns on Biden, Praises Trump
Once a major backer of the Democratic Party, Sam Bankman-Fried now expresses deep frustration with Biden's administration. In a recent interview, he stated: “I became really frustrated and disappointed with what I saw of the Biden administration and the Democratic Party.” His rhetoric now aligns with Trump’s claims of political persecution by the Department of Justice. SBF also voiced admiration for Elon Musk's stance on reducing government bureaucracy.
A Desperate Pardon Bid?
Bankman-Fried's 25-year sentence for fraud has led his family to seek clemency from Trump. Previously, Trump pardoned another high-profile figure from the crypto world, Ross Ulbricht, founder of Silk Road. SBF's former associate, Ryan Salame, also sought Trump’s aid, claiming to be a victim of political persecution.
From Crypto King to Political Opportunist?
Before FTX's collapse in November 2022, Bankman-Fried was a significant donor to Democratic campaigns. However, he admitted to secretly donating to Republicans to influence crypto regulations. His chances of receiving a pardon are viewed as slim by experts, given the political context surrounding his case. Judge Lewis Kaplan highlighted the gravity of the crime in his sentencing and remarked on SBF's manipulative behavior.
Sam Bankman-Fried's latest interview shows a calculated political shift likely aimed at securing a pardon from Trump. However, his reputation might pose a significant hurdle.
