Bhutan, the Himalayan kingdom, has introduced a unique initiative in tourism and technology. The world's first national-level crypto tourism system has been launched with the help of Binance Pay and DK Bank.
Overview of the New Payment Service
The system allows travelers to purchase everything from airline tickets and visas to hotel rooms and even fruits from roadside vendors using cryptocurrency.
How the System Works
The system features over 100 local merchants, making travel in Bhutan cashless and cardless. The Binance app and secure QR codes enable tourists to make real-time payments with more than 100 cryptocurrencies, including BNB, BTC, and USDC. Transactions are cleared and settled in Bhutanese Ngultrum through the local bank, DK Bank.
Impact on the Tourism Industry
This initiative addresses real-life travel issues, including high transaction costs and restricted card compatibility for international use. Additionally, small merchants and remote companies in Bhutan can integrate cryptocurrency payment processing with just a smartphone, making Bhutan the first country in the world to provide an integrated crypto payment system on a national level.
Bhutan showcases its dedication to innovation and the inclusion of all parties that will benefit from enhanced connectivity and added value to travel.
