Recent weeks have revealed various cyber threats, including the use of hackers by drug cartels and fraudulent schemes involving cryptocurrency.
Use of Hacker by Cartel
In late June, the U.S. Department of Justice released a report on the FBI's internal security review. According to the document, an investigation conducted in 2018 concluded with the arrest of cartel leader Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman. A member of the cartel informed the FBI that the criminal organization had hired a hacker to spy on FBI employees.
Fraud in Spain
Members of the Spanish Civil Guard, together with Europol, uncovered a major fraud network that stole more than €460 million from 5,000 victims worldwide through bogus cryptocurrency investment schemes. As a result of operations conducted on June 25, five suspects were detained, who created a global scheme to collect funds through bank transfers and cryptocurrency transactions.
Vulnerabilities in Call of Duty: WWII
Following the release of Call of Duty: WWII on July 3, players began to report hacker attacks. Hackers exploited vulnerabilities in the multiplayer mode to execute arbitrary commands on users' computers. The attacker could open Notepad or reboot the system without the player's consent.
Recent events highlight the importance of security in both personal and international contexts. The lack of protection in cyberspace jeopardizes both government officials and private individuals.
