Volatility Shares has announced the launch of the first-ever Solana futures ETFs in the US, providing investors a way to gain exposure without technical hurdles.
What Are Solana ETFs?
An ETF is a financial product that tracks the price of an asset or a basket of assets, allowing investors to gain exposure without directly owning the asset. In the case of the Volatility Shares Solana ETFs, they will track Solana futures, helping investors explore future price movements of the cryptocurrency. Futures contracts are agreements to buy or sell an asset at a predetermined price in the future.
Key Features of the Solana ETFs
The SOLZ ETF tracks Solana futures with a management fee of 0.95%, increasing to 1.15% in 2026. The SOLT ETF offers 2x leveraged exposure to Solana futures, allowing investors to receive twice the profit (or loss) from Solana's price movement. The management fee for SOLT is 1.85%. Both funds aim to make Solana more accessible to investors who are wary of the technical aspects of cryptocurrencies, such as wallet management and direct purchases.
A Step Toward a Spot Solana ETF
The launch of Solana futures ETFs is seen as significant step toward the approval of a spot Solana ETF by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. A spot ETF would directly own Solana tokens, while futures ETFs only track the price movements of futures contracts. Historically, the SEC has been cautious about approving spot cryptocurrency ETFs but more receptive to futures-based ETFs.
The Solana futures ETFs from Volatility Shares may pave the way for a future spot ETF, providing investors with more accessible exposure to Solana.
